This is usually due to the printer becoming uncalibrated to the media. First try running SmartMedia Recalibration. Do this by pressing and holding the pause and cancel button simultaneously for two seconds. The printer will feed a few labels as it recalibrates. When it is done measuring the status indicator lights solid green. Try printing again.

Possible causes and resolutions:

• The media may not be direct thermal media (direct thermal printers require specific direct thermal labels)
• Media has been loaded incorrectly. The media printable surface must face up towards the printhead and the thermal transfer ribbon must be made for Zebra printers

The printer is set at an incorrect darkness level and/or print speed. In order to achieve a darker print on the label, adjust the print darkness and print speed setting in your Label Design Software (such as Zebra Designer 3).
